Sri Lanka, UK discuss advancing bilateral trade and investment
Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom discussed advancing bilateral trade and investment following the UK’s decision to withdraw from the European Union.
Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera, met the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the UK, Boris Johnson, 10th January 2017, at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London.
Their discussion focused on developments in the bilateral relationship, including the way forward to advance trade and investment between the two countries.
Foreign Minister Samaraweera briefed his counterpart on developments in Sri Lanka and progress in the areas of institution building, strengthening democracy, advancing reconciliation and achieving inclusive development.
UK Foreign Secretary in a Twitter post said during the “warm first meeting” with Sri Lankan Minister they discussed trade and Sri Lanka’s progress against their UN human rights commitments.
